Boom Trucks

Boom vehicle are often used by phone, cable television and utilities firms as they have extended folded arms which are commonly folded over the roofs of company vans. On the end of the extension of extendable arms usually sits a bucket-like apparatus. When a bucket vehicle has an extendable boom installed on the roof this is often known as an "aerial boom truck" or a "cherry picker". It is capable of transporting staff to the peak of a telephone or utility pole. Bucket boom lift trucks have a hauling capacity of approximately 350 lbs to 1500 lbs or 158 kg to 680 kg plus they are able of extending the bucket up to 34 feet or just over 10 meters into the air.

Construction boom trucks or heavy duty boom trucks will often have a crane attachment on the rear. Often labeled knuckle booms, these cranes may be shorter and more compact than the trolley boom, which has a boom able to extend the length of the truck. Hoist boom vehicles have a hauling capability between 10 to 50 tons or around 9 to 45 metric tons.

An alternate adaptation of boom truck is the concrete boom, which possess a pipe with a nozzle at the end of the vehicle to pump concrete and other resources. The areas where these resources ought to be deposited is usually inaccessible to the truck or is located at a considerable height, therefore, the boom of a bigger concrete boom vehicle might be extended 230 feet or roughly 71 meters. The vehicle then pumps the concrete through the boom directly depositing it into the space where it is required.

Fire engines are often equipped with a boom container able to elevate firefighters up to the higher floors of buildings. Moreover, this boom will permit firefighters to direct the flow of water or to engage or rescue ensnared victims. Some of the older hook and ladder trucks have been displaced by current boom vehicles.

Self propelled booms are relatively similar to forklifts. These little boom trucks may hoist staff to elevated cargo space or to the ceiling of large warehouses and stockroom facilities. They are more stable and as a result far safer than using extension ladders for the similar application.
